Answer: You just put the knife blade in the slot at 90* and pull it back and forth a couple of times. Start with the grey ceramic and then move to the white. Simple. -

Can you remove or turn ceramic rods when they wear to a new position?
Answer: I don't think so - they are typically permanently mounted so that when they wear down you have to buy a new sharpener (which are typically very inexpensive) -

Could this sharpen a sword?
Answer: I don't think I'd use it to sharpen a sword. It seems to be designed more for touching up a much smaller knife. I don't really consider this a sharpener to be honest. I use the ceramic side to put an edge back on a small knife in the field. -

Does one side have porcelain?
Answer: It sure does. 2 Porcelain rods on one side for sharpening, and 2 hardened square metal blocks for resetting the knife edge.
