- Elinizdeki kitap Memleket Hikayeleri'nin yayımlanışının 100. yılına özel Osmanlıca ve Türkçe hazırlanmıştır.Refik Halid tarafından kaleme alınan eser ilk defa 1919 yılında Osmanlıca basılmıştır.Bu kitabın Osmanlıca sayfaları, 1919 yılındaki baskının tıpkıbasımıdır. Türkçe metinler için yazarın 1947 yılında gözden geçirdiği baskı esas alınmıştır.Refik Halid'in anlattığı olaylar bütünüyle yaşadığı dönemin olaylarıdır. Memleket Hikayeleri ile Gurbet Hikayeleri'nde canlandırılan kişilerin çoğu adeta canlıdır. Bütün bu yönleriyle Halide Edip onun 'yalnız Türk edebiyatının değil, Rus ve Amerikan edebiyatlarından sonra, hikayecilikte cihan ölçüsünde ön planda bir yer işgal edebilecek bir hikayecimiz' olduğunu belirtir.
