  • The hero of this classical science fiction, published by Jules Verne in 1870 and one of his most popular works, is the sea. A letter from his writer friend George Sand motivated him to write this novel and helped him create Captain Nemo, one of literature's most unforgettable rebels. I hope you will take us deep into the ocean soon, George Sand said in his letter, referring to the prospect of a journey in which his characters navigate diving suits developed by Verne's scientific predictions and imagination. In 1866, a sea monster appeared in the world's seas, observed by various ships. This enormous marine animal, which is blamed for some maritime accidents and the disappearance of some ships and is described as an object much larger and faster than a whale, also causes heated debates in the scientific world. Taking action, the United States prepares the frigate Abraham Lincoln for an expedition to go after the monster. Professor Aronnax from the Paris Museum of Natural History, his loyal servant Conseil and Canadian harpooner Ned Land also join this expedition. Extraordinary adventures await them, starting when they fall into the hands of the mysterious Captain Nemo. Show more
